One of the best features of the BitTorrent protocol is the ability to pause and resume your downloads at any time. This feature alone makes BitTorrent the best method of file sharing while on the go. Luckily, smart phones have become more powerful and capable of keeping up with the demands of their users. Torrent clients designed specifically for Android devices have been around for some time, and they keep getting better as time goes on. Join us as we take a look at five of the best torrent clients for Android. Note: all prices are sourced from the Google Play store and are accurate at the time of this writing.
1. Flud (free/$1.50)
Flud is one of the better looking torrent clients available for Android devices. It sports a clean, minimalist interface that is incredibly intuitive. Flud does not enforce any download or upload speed limits, supports magnet links, and has the option to download over WiFi only. While it does support downloading direct to an external SD card, it does so in a roundabout way that requires a fairly lengthy file path. The free version of Flud is exactly the same as the paid version, just with ads. Overall Flud is capable, easy to use and pretty to look at.
2. CatTorrent (free)
CatTorrent may not be the most feature-rich torrent client available, but it gets the job done. It has all of the features that a casual user could want including a Wi-Fi only mode and Magnet link support. CatTorrent also supports partial downloading which means you can choose which files to download, which is always handy. Best of all, this one is totally free.
3. tTorrent (free/$1.82)
Like Flud, tTorrent is available in both a free, ad-supported version and a free version which removes the ads. In addition to having all of the features you have come to expect, tTorrent also supports writing to external storage, like an SD card (with Android 5.0+). While the app works very well, some users have been less than happy with the amount of developer support.
4. uTorrent (free/$4.99)
Chances are that if you download torrents on your personal computer, you have had uTorrent installed on your machine at one time or another. The mobile version of this popular client is very similar to its PC counterpart, so long time users will feel right at home. Featuring everything you’ve come to expect in a torrent client, uTorrent also boasts the very latest in core technology. This ensures uTorrent is updated constantly, providing maximum performance. The paid version of uTorrent removes ads and features some additional functionality.
5. aTorrent (free/$3.79)
Supporting many of the same features found in uTorrent, aTorrent seems poised to win over uTorrent converts. Its interface is clean and easy to use; however, aTorrent has a useful feature not found in all Android torrent clients. A widget is bundled with the app that shows you useful stats regarding your torrents right on your home screen. This is ideal for those who are heavy torrent users and have their client running in the background constantly. These five Android torrent clients are just the tip of the iceberg.
